Hi Brett, We were very impressed with your video related to "Professional Autofocus Setup for the Canon R5 (and R6) - eye AF + back button AF". We are a group of Canon users, and three of our members have invested in Canon R5 II. A question was raised if you are making a similar video related to autofocus for the Canon R5 II in the near future.

I have used a Canon 1 Dx Mark II for all of my Macaw family photos/videos since 2016. But after watching a video by Jan Wegener on the Canon R6 Mark II, I decided to rent one. Absolutely incredible focusing capabilities and produces amazing 4K video. I do not like the smaller body of the R5, R6, and others, but love the large body of the 1Dx series cameras. I ordered a Canon R3 a few days ago, and it will be delivered today! Thank you for this video and for reinforcing my decision to buy the R3! The new R1 will not have any improvements over the R3 for my photo/video use, so no need for me to buy the R1. The larger 1 Dx body size on the R1 would be better than the R3, but not enough to justify the larger price.

So glad this video is available for this camera.

Btw. I ordered a couple of those hot shoe caps for my R3 from B & H. Lord only knows when they will ship. But excited to finally have something firm on that hot shoe that won’t fall of with a light breeze. 😂

Great information,,,settings made ! cant wait to use the Back Buttons in the field, I must say all of my changes did not save once I powered off the camera and turned it back on...I have to ALSO save them under C1, C2, C3 etc, unless I am in M mode, manual... and your videos radiate a good comfortable vibe....I love the laid back instruction !

AF= * button, when star button is assign to face tracking, do you have to hold down the start or just tapping it is fine? Thanks in advance

Hey, Brett I'm a little confused - in my R10, I already have, In AF menu 1, Eye Detection enabled. Would I need to "Disabled" it from there, and THEN do the asterisk programming? Many thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anti-flicker is not a JPEG setting. If you shoot either indoors or outdoors with arena lighting that filckers at 75hz.

Hey Brett, would love to pick your brain about this lens a bit since you've had it for about 8 months and have no doubt used it quite extensively. Mine arrives this week and I'm pretty excited to put it to work. How has it been to work with compared to the 300? Have you used it with a 1.4 or 2x converter? Did the noisy zoom ring ever quiet down? I haven't sold my EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens or teleconverters just yet...I haven't see the most promising performance results online with this lens and the RF 2x, so that has me a bit concerned. This is a big investment for adding utility but losing sharpness. I just felt like I would get a lot more use out of this lens than I do my 300 which is naturally less useful than a zoom. It would at least allow me to travel without a 70-200, 100-500, AND 300mm. I could get away with just this lens, the teleconverters a 15-35, 24-105 f/2.8, and maybe a prime of choice. Thanks for any information, dude.

I've been using the back button on my DLSR for years and now on the R, it shoots much faster. But usually, if someone wants to take a photo of me with my camera, they don't know why it doesn't focus automatically :P

Would you get barndoors or the softbox?

As far as using a back button to start and controlling focus. Why use two fingers to do what can be accomplished with just one finger. Use anything that makes photography fun and easy for you. We are all different, I have worked for nearly half a century in photography field, even before all this b.b.f., auto focusing Era. I have seen things come and go. For me b.b.f. is not something I embrace. Much like auto shutter,aperture or programmed control. I like doing things myself. Customisable rear buttons have many other uses I prefer over focus control. Number one reason for bbf: Just hold the back button to track a moving subject, or release it to lock focus on a still subject. Additionally, you can avoid accidental refocusing when you recompose your shot or when something comes between you and your subject. A better solution most professional photographers use. Back button a.f. lock or on Canon back button a.f. off. It works in the same principle, only you press bbf to momentarily stop auto focus. Releasing it when you need to track focus your subject. You can also use manual focus without turning off the autofocus system; just focus manually with the lens ring. Only available on certain lenses a.k.a. as one touch focusing. Personally when I shoot sport, and wildlife, I find that I need autofocus more often than I don’t. Which means that I’d rather press an extra button on the occasions I don’t need it, than press it on the occasions I do.

This camera is absolute horseshit. All I want to do is set everything to manual, and take pictures. On my Sony Alpha that literally takes seconds. Here, I’m watching an hour long video.
